A tornado ripped the roofs off several buildings in old downtown McAlester, tore up trees and caused other damage in Pittsburg County early Saturday morning, June 7.

McIntosh County Emergency Management Director Leslie Phillips said Monday morning that there was some wind damage in parts of this county, but no tornadoes and no major destruction.

The main problem in McIntosh County has been rain.

Phillips said about nine inches of rain fell last week.

Lake Eufaula’s level continues to rise and fall, as the reservoir gets water from several tributaries in the east and north.

According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the lake level at noon Monday, June 9 was 597 feet, which is 8.13 above normal.

Water is being released by the dam at a rate of 38,631 cubic feet per second.

“They’ve released more out than is coming in, for the first time in several days,” he said.

Phillips says county residents can expect more rain through next weekend, though not as much as last week.

For the days ahead, the National Weather report says: – Wednesday night, 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

– Thursday night, 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

– Friday night, 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

– Saturday, 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day and 20 percent chance at night.

– Sunday, a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.
