Eufaula Native American artist Jon Tiger recently won first Place at the Trail of Tears Art Show in Tahlequah for his “Bless This Vessel,” a 5-inch by 7-inch watercolor.

Tiger noted that the painting is on acidfree paper, to preserve the art.

The painting depicts an ancient pot with a Southeastern design on the rim.

The person is asking to bless this creative pottery to use for family functions.

“She raises the vessel for the blessing from above,” Tiger said.

He noted that tattoos were prevalent among men and women of the Southeastern Tribal Nations before the arrival of Europeans.
