Democrat takes home the Sequoyah Award
Your local newspapers did it again. The staff of McIntosh County Democrat and Eufaula Indian Journal earned multiple awards last weekend at the Oklahoma Press Association Awards Banquet in Shawnee.
The McIntosh County Democrat (MCD) won the coveted Sequoyah Award for the top newspaper in Division 6 (Communities of 2,800-6,000). LaDonna Rhodes won first place in Advertising and another for Community Leadership. The MCD also placed 2nd place in News Content, 3rd in Sports Coverage and 3rd in Sales Promotion (Gridiron Guide).
The Eufaula Indian Journal (EIJ) was successful in Division 5, competing in communities of 6,000-20,000.
Rodney Haltom won first place in Sports Coverage and first place in Sports Photography. The IJ placed 2nd place in Sales Promotion (Gridiron Guide), 2nd in Photography and 3rd place in News Content.
Editor Jerry Fink was honored for 50 years of journalism and Shauna Belyeu and Denise Frost for 25 years in the industry.
