Selina Jayne-Dornan, a speech and drama instructor at Eufaula High School, has been selected as one of three statewide winners in Tinker Federal Credit Union’s (TFCU) annual Teachers + TFCU sweepstakes.
Jayne-Dornan was nominated on TFCU’s Facebook page and selected as a $2,000 prize winner.
She said she is grateful for the opportunity to teach speech skills at her school and is very proud of her students’ growth.
“I’m so touched to be able to be in this position,” Jayne-Dornan said. “Helping them to get ready to go out into life is what it’s all about.”
Since 2008, the Teachers + TFCU program has provided funds for educators to use outside the classroom, acknowledging their personal contributions.
Additionally, TFCU offers free financial education workshops across Oklahoma, helping adults and youth learn essential money management skills, from budgeting to planning for different life stages.
“So many recognition programs for teachers award money to be used in the classroom, and teachers give so much inside the classroom daily,” said Heather Kay, assistant vice president and manager of the financial empow- erment department at TFCU. “We want our winners to treat themselves to anything they want or need outside the classroom.”
The financial empowerment team and the Teachers + TFCU program are some of the ways TFCU lives up to the credit union motto of people helping people – by meeting needs in the communities we serve.
“We are here to help support teachers by empowering their students to make smart money choices for life,” Kay said. “By coming into the classroom as a guest speaker, we can teach about financial fundamentals like setting goals, making a budget, paying bills and understanding other realworld skills to prepare students for financial independence.”
