Thunderstorms and a dozen tornadoes ripped through areas around Mc-Intosh County Monday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Across Oklahoma, at least 10 homes were destroyed, and multiple buildings were damaged, including a fire station that was wiped out, according to the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management. A spokesperson for the agency said they have not received any reports of injuries or deaths.
The closest tornadoes to McIntosh County struck in Pittsburg County, south of McAlester near Blanco, where widespread damage was reported, destroying homes and the town’s fire station.
Tornadoes also were reported around the Pittsburg County communities of Haileyville and Hartshorne.
Also, tornadoes were spotted near Stilwell, Fairfield and Bunch in Adair County, Wardville in Atoka County and Gore in Sequoyah County as well as the Lake Tenkiller area.
A small tornado was confirmed very near Pan- ama in LeFlore County and Washington County, Ark.
The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management reported that in Mayes County a few buildings were damaged in the industrial park in Locust Grove and Highway 69 was blocked by downed powerlines.
Muskogee County Emergency Management reported businesses and homes with roof damage in downtown Ft. Gibson. Trees were down from downtown to 6 Mile Road.
Okfuskee County Emergency Management reported two buildings damaged in Okemah and numerous tree limbs down.
Pontotoc County Emergency Management reported damage including tree limbs down, power lines down, and two carports destroyed. Many roadways experienced flash flooding.
The NWS office in Tulsa confirmed 13 tornadoes occurred in their jurisdiction, which includes parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, on Monday.
While no injuries or fatalities have been reported due to the events, the exact number of tornadoes and a full assessment of the aftermath are yet to be completed, and details may change as more data becomes available.
A tornado watch continued until 2 a.m. Tuesday for parts of Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas as the storm progressed east, according to the NWS.
