The DAV Chapter 3 McIntosh County will be hosting two events this weekend to honor all military veterans.
The first event will be to honor local military on Friday, May 23 at 5 p.m. at Vet- erans Park in Checotah. This Veterans Appreciate will have free hotdog and hamburgers, a 50/50 raffle, games and of course fellowship.
The community is invited to come and support their local DAV Chapter and all military and their families.
Then Monday, May 26, the DAV will host the annual Memorial Day Service at Greenlawn Cemetery at 10 a.m.
The guest speaker will be USMC Veteran and Chaplain Don Nichols with the Military Order of Purple Heart Chapter 617.
The Checotah FFA and band members of the Class of Checotah will also be part of the memorial service to honor those veterans who gave their all.
The community is also encouraged to come and be a part of this memorable service to honor those who fought for the freedoms Americans have today.
On April 11, three VFW Post members (Joseph Campbell, Raymond Finch and Kyle Fish) and three VFW Auxiliary members (Cheryl Campbell, Sammi Borders and Shannon Porter) placed flag cross markers at each veteran’s headstone in Greenlawn Cemetery. Finally on May 6, one auxiliary member placed the last cross marker with the total cross markers placed being 864.
On May 22, Freedom House/Adult & Teen Challenge ladies will be placing American flags on all these veterans’ graves prior to the Memorial Day ceremony on Monday.
