Republican Bryan Logan of Paden was the overwhelming victor in Tuesday’s State Senate District 8 race to fill the seat vacated last year by the resignation of Roger Thompson, a Republican from Okemah.
According to unofficial returns, Logan defeated Henryetta residents Nathan Brewer, a Democrat, and Independent Steve Sanford by 61.62 percent district wide, with Logan receiving 3,083 votes to Brewer’s 1,484 and Sanford’s 436. In McIntosh County it was 770 for Logan, 377 for Brewer and 65 for Sanford.
In another vote, which had little impact in McIntosh County, 13 people voted to approve a building fund levy for Green Country Technology Center and six voted no.
Only one precinct in McIntosh County lies within the voting area of the Technology Center, which is located in Okmulgee, which has 25 precincts.
The area-wide vote on the issue was 1,443 in favor and 836 against, 63.32 percent versus 36.68 percent.
The Center, which serves high school and adults primarily in Okmulgee County, seeks to expand and modernize its career training programs.
This proposal would allow GCTC to add a new career-focused instructional program, upgrade equipment across all existing programs and improve safety and facilities – all at no cost to area high school students.
