Normally, an Athletic Director is a former coach with decades of experience evaluating coaches, setting funds for individual sports, promoting their schools programs and student athletes. The purpose of an athletic director is also to give advice when it comes to hiring and evaluating coaches to the school board.
With all the tasks and responsibilities that high school athletic administrators handle, learning and mastering new skills, and incorporating the latest best practices, are essential to keep pace. There are always new developments and more to learn; it is a continual and constant process.
The decisions that an athletic director or school board makes affects hundreds if not thousands of students and the choices students athletes make to participate or not participate in programs and now with the new OSSAA rule change the opportunity to transfer to another school. The position of the athletic director is one that should be honored, respected and to be taken seriously.
