Dormant EHS theater program comes back to life

More than 10 years had passed since Eufaula High School staged a theatrical performance.

That drought ended on April 16 when students in three Speech/Drama classes presented a revue to the staff and student body.

The parents and general public will have an opportunity to see these talented students perform an encore on Thursday, May 1 at 7 p.m. at the High School Auditorium.

This special “Night of One Acts” will feature the previously performed plays, along with a special addition: a radio drama written by a student and vocally performed by students who are less inclined to perform on stage.

Also joining the program will be the 5th hour class’s moving drama War Letter by J. Robert Wilkins.

The Speech & Drama students will showcase what they’ve learned and the hard work they’ve put into their performances throughout the year. It promises to be an event filled with talent, creativity, and plenty of laughs!

The event opens with an energetic dance routine performed by Hannah Kennedy and Fenix Kilgore, who dazzles the audience with a vibrant performance of “Money” from the musical Cabaret.

Following this, the audience is treated to selected scenes from the comedic one-act play Help Desk by Don Zolidis, showcasing the students’ humor and timing. The second one-act play, Squad Goals, also written by Don Zolidis, brings even more laughter to the stage with its hilarious take on basketball and try-outs.

Selina Dornan, Speech/Drama instructor at Eufaula High School, expressed her excitement about the event’s success at its premier performance for students and faculty.

“The response was amazing, and the students seemed to really enjoy themselves,” said Dornan. “It was a wonderful opportunity to not only expose the student body to some good ol’ laughs but also to celebrate the accomplishments of the new program.”

The feedback from students and staff was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing delight at the fun and energy that filled the auditorium.

“It was an incredible experience seeing students come together and shine in front of their classmates and teachers,” Dornan added. “I think I may have even more students enroll for next year!”
