From conception to completion took four years, but Eufaula now has a splash pad.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday.
The project cost $563,445, paid for with grants, donations and in-kind services.
About half the cost was paid for by a federal grant of $281,722.50.
The City contributed $172,222, which includes $25,500 in-kind match, and the Eufaula Economic Development Authority paid $5,000.
The Smith Foundation contributed $32,500 and McQuay Construction $70,000 in in-kind work.
More than 90 individuals and organizations contributed thousands of dollars toward the project.
“It was money well spent,” said Eufaula Mayor Todd Warren. “Every time I drive by there, there are plenty of kids enjoying themselves.”
The pad is located at McKinley Avenue and L Street, in an area dubbed Oasis Park.
City Manager Jeb Jones hopes to see more entertainment-oriented projects in the future, including a pickleball court – perhaps at the site of the rarely used tennis courts near the volleyball field on the northeast side of town.
“I would also like to see about putting in a sports complex,” Jones said.
