McIntosh County had a plethora of boxing talent

This week was welcomed with great news of Robert Newton to be inducted into the Oklahoma Boxing Hall of Fame. Newton was dominant in the ring and he was one of many great boxers that came out of McIntosh County. William Jackson was a professional boxer from Eufaula along with Doug Reynolds, Jerome McNeal, Doug Kirby, J.C. Watts, Mike Nicolas, Billy McNeal, Jason Jackson among many others.

At one time Eufaula had three boxing camps and hosted fight night at the Armory every Saturday night. It’s wonderful that Robert Newton is being recognized for his career in one of, if not the, toughest sports in the world.
