Lake Eucha
Lake Eucha was stocked with about 2,000 one-year-old Florida largemouth bass recently. These fish were raised at the Durant State Fish Hatchery and are part of an ongoing project. The project’s goal is to determine if Florida genetics have the same growth potential in more northern lakes. These lakes have a shorter growing season and colder climate, making it difficult for fingerlings/fry to survive to reproductive age. Biologists have learned stocking one-year-old fish is more effective in lakes north of I-40. Fisheries staff are still working to see if these genes can quickly grow to larger sizes this far north.
