Message from the Principals
By KRISTEL HICKMAN, PRINCIPAL EUFAULA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL,

Our theme for this school year is GROWTH: We use this as an acronym for highlighting the characteristics of: Gratitude, Respect, Open-Minded, Willingness to Learn, Teamwork, Honesty.

This month we will focus on being Teamwork: Teamwork means coming together to solve a problem or achieve a shared goal. Like socializing and forming friendships, the ability to work with someone effectively is a stage of personal development that helps children build skills like listening, cooperation, and leadership.

Positive teamwork is a crucial skill for elementary students to develop.

Here are some examples of activities that promote teamwork: 1. Helping Each Other with Assignments: When a classmate is struggling with a particular assignment or concept, offering to explain it in a different way or providing assistance can foster a supportive learning environment.

2. Sharing Materials: If a student forgets their pencil case or needs a piece of paper, offering to lend them supplies demonstrates kindness and consideration for others’ needs.

3. Including Others in Group Activities: Making an effort to include classmates who may feel left out during group activities or games ensures that everyone feels valued and included.

4. Encouraging and Supporting Each Other: Providing words of encouragement or offering a helping hand when a classmate faces a challenge can boost their confidence and morale.

5. Listening to Each Other: Actively listening to classmates’ ideas, opinions, and concerns during group discussions or projects shows respect for their contributions and promotes effective communication.

6. Resolving Conflicts Peacefully: When disagreements arise, students can work together to find compromises and solutions that satisfy everyone involved, fostering conflict resolution skills and maintaining positive relationships.

7. Celebrating Each Other’s Successes: Whether it’s cheering on a classmate during a sports event, congratulating them on a job well done, or celebrating achievements together, acknowledging and celebrating each other’s successes strengthens bonds and promotes a sense of camaraderie.

8. Standing Up Against Bullying: Supporting classmates who are being bullied or mistreated by speaking up, offering support, or seeking help from a trusted adult demonstrates empathy and solidarity.

9. Collaborating on Group Projects: Working together cooperatively, dividing tasks fairly, and respecting each other’s contributions during group projects ensures that everyone can contribute their strengths and achieve success as a team.

10. Being Inclusive and Accepting of Differences: Embracing diversity and respecting classmates’ differences in backgrounds, abilities, and interests fosters a culture of inclusivity and acceptance within the classroom community.
