Moving on to area play
The No. 14 Eufaula Lady Ironheads (169) took a loss as state defending champions Jones dominated them with a quick start to win 52-33 on Saturday at Jones. Jones jumped out fast, outscoring Eufaula 17-4 in the first period. The Lady Ironheads struggled shooting from beyond the arch. Allie Anderson was the only player to make a threepoint shot in the first half and Eufaula trailed 31-13 at the halftime break.
The third period was a battle with both teams exchanging score for score. Elaina Monroe scored two long shots and Kambry Williams made all of her free throws.
Kate Pippenger and Maddie Ballard found some success scoring in the final period but the large deficit would prove too much to overcome as Jones went on to win 52-33. Kambry Williams and Kate Pippenger led Eufaula with eight points, Monroe six and Anderson five points.
On Thursday the Eufaula Lady Ironheads held off the Morris Lady Eagles 37-33. Allie Anderson led Eufaula with 13 points. It was a highly competitive game from the opening tip. Eufaula used great penetration to make Morris off balance then score from the paint. Kate Pippneger and Jadence Efurd played great in the paint on defense as they grabbed several key rebounds. Kambry Williams opened up the long balls for Eufaula as they led 11-6 after the first period and 26-16 at halftime.
Morris tried to bounce back with a 9-to-8 third period but Eufaula’s defense forced numerous turnovers to hold off the Lady Eagles to move on to the winners bracket against Jones. Anderson had 13 points, Pippenger seven points and Williams added six points to round out the top three.
Eufaula moves on to Area play in Ada on Thursday at 6 p.m.
