Hey, what kind of fish is that? Well, that’s a question the ODWC Stream Team answers every summer while conducting community-based fish sampling across Oklahoma’s river drainages. We document everything from small, nongame species like minnows and darters to larger sportfish like bass and catfish. Most people are unaware that Oklahoma has over 180 different species of fish. The primary goal of this effort is to conserve this biodiversity by monitoring trends in fish communities over time. With the helpful cooperation of landowners, the Stream Team has surveyed 400 sites since 2016! This summer, the Stream Team will be sampling the Muddy Boggy watershed in south central Oklahoma. If you have stream access to the Muddy Boggy, Clear Boggy, or any of their tributaries and you’d like to partner with ODWC, please reach out! If your access site is chosen, landowners will be given a report highlighting all the species found on your property. Contact the Stream Team at: drew.wallace@odwc.ok.gov, (918) 351-9085
