Eufaula Indian Community’s chair volleyball team, whose members are 55-plus years of age, won second place Dec.19 in competition held at the Creek Nation Dome in Okmulgee.
The Eufaula team includes Larry Corliss, Bud McCombs, Laverne Tier, Charlene Colbert, Max Ingle, Rusty Odom, Nellie Hallum and Molline Jackson. Also, Freda Foster, who is not pictured.
Spokesman Jon Tiger said the team wore t-shirts designed in honor of former player the late Johnny Scott. The design was by Scott’s brother-in-law Scott Aldrich of Winnebago, Nebraska.
Sunday’s competition was called “The Season of Grinchy.” Eighteen teams participated in the event.
The relatively new competition was created by Tiger.
“I thought it would be an activity our elders could do,” Tiger said. “We introduced the game to the Muskogee Indian Community, and it took off from there.”
The teams play yearround.
Eufaula’s team practices every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.
