The University of Oklahoma and University of Texas have agreed to a contract extension that will keep the historic Allstate Red River Rivalry football game at the Cotton Bowl until 2036.
As part of the agreement, the City of Dallas will invest $140 million in a two-year renovation project for the stadium. The renovations will include widening concourses, adding escalators, improving concessions and restrooms, and increasing hospitality areas and premium environments. The first phase of renovations will be completed by September 2026, with a second phase finishing by September 2034.
Both universities expressed excitement about the extended partnership and the opportunity to preserve the tradition of the Red River Rivalry. The game has a long and storied history dating back to 1900, and it has been played at a neutral site since 1912. The State Fair of Texas has hosted the game since 1929, and it has been held at the Cotton Bowl Stadium since its opening in 1930.
