The community of Eufaula and Mc-Intosh County lost a great man and coach in Phil McIntosh this past week. He passed away at 74.
Phil will always be known as “Coach” to me and most of my fellow classmates in that era. It didn’t matter if I saw him working at the post office or on the back of a horse, I called him “Coach.” He always had a smile on his face and jokes to share.
In the sixth grade at Cooper McClain School, “Coach” would always pick out someone from P.E. class and send them across the street to the Piggly Wiggly grocery store to get a Lake Eufaula World and a cup of coffee. I know just that sentence makes you know my age and that it was a long time ago. However, the impact that “Coach” left on me, and I’m sure other students, will always be a part of us. May God Bless the McIntosh family and our prayers are with you in this time of sorrow.
