McQuay Construction awarded contract
At a special meeting of the Eufaula City Council on June 20 a contract for concrete work at the site of the proposed new fire station was awarded to Mc-Quay Construction.
J&S Construction Co., LLC. of Vinita had submitted a bid of $145,800, but City Manager Jeb Jones was not satisfied with the work by J&S.
“Due to quality issues with pad material and work quality (proper compaction), I have terminated the services of J&S Construction and recommend awarding the project to McQuay Construction. I have had discussions with McQuay Construction, and they are willing to take the project on for the original low bid of $145,800.”
Work will include site/pad preparation, construction of concrete footings piers and pad for an 80-foot by 120foot engineered steel building, which will be located on the cityowned property on west SH 9 across the highway from the middle school and elementary school complex.
“This is the first step for the construction of the new fire station. We advertised for bids that were opened on April 14, 2023. We received multiple bids for each package; three for the site/pad and concrete and two for the building package. The bidding was competitive, and we were able to get very good pricing for each package,” Jones said.
