Twenty people gathered to discuss and vote on the topic of a variance request to place a mobile home at 1653 McGill Circle in Coon Creek addition.
A petition was submitted to the Eufaula Board of Adjustment by Tim Pendley on behalf of Amy Lisle. The petition was submitted on April 15, 2023 seeking a variance to install a mobile home at 1653 McGill Cr., the south side of the edition where there is currently a line of existing mobile homes.
The mobile home they requested to install had a manufacture date of Jan. 20, 2010.
Pendley addressed the Board, discussing that the property had improvements including a slab for a mobile home and stated that the intent of that property was for a mobile home. He presented a letter from the City of Eufaula in 2014, stating that they had permission to place a mobile home on the purchased property.
Neighborhood representative Judy Kropp spoke on behalf of the opposition.
Kropp organized a petition against the variance, which included 32 signatures.
“Mobile homes should only be in a mobile home park,” Kropp said.
“Our neighborhood is quiet and safe. If this variance passed and this is allowed, it would open up many issues.”
Kenny Osburn, another neighbor who lives near the proposed property, addressed the Board.
“Our concern is that there is other valuable property in the neighborhood that is for sale. If we allow this, then people will try to put mobile homes to these other spots too. We have to look at the future as well,” Osburn said.
The Board acknowledged that the property was zoned as light industrial when the property was originally purchased in 2014. In March of 2020, the ordinance changed the property to residential. The Board stated that if the mobile home was placed on the property when it was originally purchased, it would be grandfathered in. Mobile homes will remain in designated areas. James Hickman made the motion to not accept the zoning variance. The motion passed unanimously.
