It has been correctly stated that if we can ignore one of God’s commands we can ignore them all. James, the inspired writer, tells us “(Jas 2:10) For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” A statement of truth concerning any law as the whole of the law rests upon the authority of each statute of that law. We are subject to the “law of Christ,” Rom. 8:2 … the “law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.” Thus the point made by the inspired James is applicable today. The resulting effect of commands is in the power/authority that speaks them. When the Old Law was fulfilled to Israel in the repentance in Baptism of John’ teaching the Authority that promised the obedient “the remission of Sin” (Mark 1:4) was God’s authority.
