Mr. Raccoon (left photo) was determined to sit and relax as he watched traffic go by on old Highway 69 south of Greenwood Cemetery on Tuesday of last week. Several motorists avoided hitting the slothful creature, until McIntosh County Deputy Sheriff Chris Hudson nabbed it and attempted to release it into the woods along the busy road (right photo). But the raccoon kept returning to the roadway and becoming a danger to himself and others. Finally, Hudson turned it over to the Eufaula Police Department. It was determined that the raccoon showed no signs of rabies, was no threat to anyone and was released into the wild to find a road less traveled. STAFF
