Remember Jesus’ parable about the wicked vineyard tenants who refused to give the vineyard owner the produce from the harvest? They killed the owner’s slaves and even his son, thinking they would keep the vineyard for themselves. Jesus was such a good story teller that the chief priests and elders listening to him in the temple that day insisted that the wicked tenants should be killed and replaced with more responsible workers before it dawned on them that Jesus was talking about them! Jesus was criticizing the Jewish religious leaders for their failure to lead and care for God’s people. “Therefore I tell you,” Jesus said, “the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that produces the fruits of the kingdom” (Matthew 21:33-43).
