“If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me,” Jesus says to his disciples. At this point, Jesus’ face is set towards Jerusalem and he is adamant about setting his disciples straight about suffering and carrying crosses – his own, and theirs (Matthew 16:21-26).
